German Envoy Hosts New Year's Event in Seoul

German Ambassador to Seoul Hans-Ulrich Seidt and his spouse Mrs. Marita Seidt hosted a dinner reception at their residence in Seoul's Seongbuk-dong on Jan. 14, 2011 on the occasion of the New Year.

A host of carefully selected guests, particularly of German residents in Seoul and from the diplomatic circle, were invited to the dinner reception.

The German ambassadorial couple also invited a local Korean pianist Ms. Song Soo-Mi for a lovely evening concert.

Other guests included Mr. Guenter Reinke, president & CEO of Boehringer Ingelheim, who is also Seoul honorary citizen; Mr. Jung Tai-Nam, global COO of BAUM architects; Mr. Martin Rotermund, managing director of RITTAL Co.; Mr. Charm Lee, president of Korea Tourism Organization; Dr. Raimund Royer, medical director of International Clinic of the Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine; and Ms. Jeon Yu-Jin, president & CEO of Taeyang Industry.

The newly arrived Italian Ambassador Sergio Mercuri, and his wife Maria Giovanna Fadiga Mercuri were also invited to the dinner.

Other high-profile participants were Dr. Colin Durkop, resident representative of Konrad-Adenauer Foundation's Korea Office; and Mr. Jurgen Wohler, secretary general & executive director of Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

During the dinner reception, the German envoy explained to the guests about the origin of the German carnival.

The German envoy was hosting the event for the German residents, diplomatic colleagues, and his local Korean friends to celebrate the New Year.

"I wish the peace and prosperity for everybody including Korean people," Amb. Seidt said.

He also introduced to the guests "The German Carnival" event to be held on March 4, 2011 at Millennium Hilton Hotel's Grand Ballroom in Seoul.

The German Carnival (Karneval) event will feature various programs including

Kostüm-Ball (costume ball), the march of "Prinz" and "Prinzessin" (prince and princess) in traditional costume, Büttenrede (a rhyming speech), Männerballett (male ballet), the best dresser award, and a music band "Abba Revival Band UVA.

Carnivals (Karneval) in Germany

A large number of events occur in the country of Germany among which the most celebrated ones are the various Carnival Germany.

These Carnivals in Germany are the best occasions to celebrate life and its various aspects.

There are more than 4,000 organizations which arrange and organize the German Carnivals.

Most of the well-known carnivals in Germany are held in the cities of Aachen, Mainz, Dusseldorf, and Bonn.

Among all other carnivals "the Koln Carnival Germany" is the most famous and the most popular one.

There are three stars at the Koln carnival in Germany known as the Dreigestirn.

The carnival prince is known as the Seine Tollitat, there is also a peasant who is known as the Bauer and then there is a virgin by the name of Jungfrau.

The Jungfrau is however always acted by a man.

In fact, it is considered to be great honor to be a part of the 11 members of the crew of Dreigestirn.

The official beginning of the Koln Carnival in Germany starts from the 11th of November right at the 11:11 a.m. and stretches up to a span of three months.

Weiberfastnacht or the women's carnival night is celebrated on the night of the Thursday preceding the Rosenmontag.

On this night, the women are free to cut off the tie of the man who is within their reach and also to kiss any man they want.
