Position Director-General of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Is Urgently Sought

A vacancy has arisen for the post of DG of Science Foundation Ireland. The vacancy has been advertised in The Irish Times, The Sunday Business Post and in the current issues of Science and Nature. The SFI has, also, asked the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that Irish Embassies abroad bring this vacancy to attention.

Salary is negotiable.

The SFI is a statutory body. The terms of the role and function of the DG of SFI are set out sections 13 and 14 of the Industrial Development (Science Foundation Ireland) Act, 2003.

The new DG will be expected to be experienced in one or more of the following areas: industrial or academic research, research funding management and evaluation, policy leadership in the fields of research, economic or industrial development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a budget of €350million to invest in academic researchers and research teams to generate new knowledge, leading edge technologies and competitive enterprises for economic/industrial purposes in Ireland.

Among her/his statutory responsibilities will be to advise the Board of SFI on policy, brief the Board on how to establish policies to enable it to discharge its functions, establish the necessary financial and executive resources, executive measures to give effect to the policies of the Board, deploy financial and executive resources effectively and efficiently.
