Finland Marks 87th Independence Day

Amb. Kim Luotonen of Finland observed its 87th Independence Day at Millennium Hilton Hotel in Seoul Dec. 6, 2004 with a number of dignitaries from both local and international communities including diplomatic area.

The buffet reception, which started at 6 p.m. at Hilton's Grand Ballroom, lasted more than two hours as more VIPs kept arriving. Among the local guests was a famous TV actor, Song Il-Guk.

Scores of top foreign envoys to Seoul and many of their wives also came to celebrate Finland's largest national holiday — the day when Fins gained its independence from Russia in 1917.

Among the 200 high-profile guests were Amb. Sydney Bafana Kubheka of South Africa, Amb. Saleh Bin Mansour Al-Rajhy Saudi Arabia, Amb. Jaafar Alj Hakim of Morocco, Amb. Carlos M.L. Frota of Portugal and his wife, Amb. Vitali V. Fen of Uzbekistan and his wife, Amb. Babiker Ali Khalifa of Sudan, Amb. Istvan Torzsa of Hungary, Amb. Othman Jerandi of Tunisia, Amb. Aladin Gonzales Villacorte of the Philippines, Amb. Tomas Smetanka of Czech, and Amb. Urjinklhundev Perenlei of Mongolia.
