Korean Air Chairman Cho Yang-Ho Sued for Insulting, Defaming His Own Pilots
S. Korea's 1,400 Pilots Wants Cho to Be Punished
Korean Air Chairman Cho Yang-Ho

Korean Air Chairman Cho Yang-Ho was sued by its own 800 pilots for defaming the pilots in his SNS comments, South Korea's Yonhap News and mass-circulation daily ChoongAng Ilbo reported on May 4, 2016.

They reported that labor union of the pilots filed a law suit against their own chairman, claiming that Chairman Cho ridiculed their's daily work. The law suit of contempt and defamation was filed to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.

"Our honor was defamed and we were insulted by Chairman Cho's SNS comment," the labor union was quoted as saying.

The news report went on, saying Cho
insulted and defamed the pilot by his comments in which he voiced displeasure with his pilots demanding improvement of working conditions.

On March 13, 2016 Korean Air chairman posted a comment on his Facebook page, saying "What pilots have to do is just to decide to go or not to go, ... Flying is done by autopilot, and the flying is easier than driving a car."

Cho was quoted as saying "Only in case of an emergency do we need pilots. You (pilots) are exaggerating too much."

Cho's comment was made in response to an earlier online post by one of Korean Air's pilots.

The pilot detailed grueling procedures he has to go through before going into his cockpit.

The South Korean national flag carrier and its pilots have long been in feud over wage negotiation and overall working conditions.

The other 600 pilots of Asia Airline, Jin Air, and Jeju Air joined forces in Koran Air's pilots law suit against Cho, saying the government punish Cho for his insulting the pilots.

The 1,400 pilots were demanding that the government punish Cho for his defamation and contempt of nation's pilots.
