"South Korea to Import Algerian Wine"

Algerian Amb. Abdelmoun'aam Ahriz and his wife hosted a year-end dinner for members of the Korea and Algeria Friendship Association (KAFA) at his official residence in Seongbuk-gu, northern part of Seoul, Dec. 17, 2004.

The ambassadorial couple invited to their unofficial reception a limited number of their friends — KAFA Chairman Lee Jung-Woo, and KAFA Vice Chairman Kah Jae-Mo, and editorial advisor Min Byonng-Il of The Seoul Times (ST). ST managing editor Joseph Joh, and ST staff reporter Oxana Davydenko. KAFA Chairman Lee also serves as chairman of The Seoul Times.

In a warm and close ambiance the KAFA and ST members were able to enjoy a rare moment to have a personal chats with the top Algerian envoy and his wife over a tasty meal which included Algerian dishes and wines. An assortment of Algeria's traditional cookies and mint tea were of exquisite taste in particular.

The hosts and guests show presents of KAFA Vice Chairman Kah Jae-Mo.

During the dinner Amb. Ahriz reminded the diners that Algeria is the second largest economy in the entire African Continent after South Africa. He mentioned that nowadays Algeria extends the scopes of market mechanisms and centers on a better allocation of resources. Amb. Ahriz also touched on how Algeria is attractive for Korean companies to invest in.

He said that there are already many bilateral agreements concluded between Algeria and South Korea. They include the Agreement on Economic and Technological Cooperation, the Agreement on Reciprocal Investment Promotion and Protection, and the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation.

The Algerian ambassador is very proud of one of their products — wine. He said that Algeria is quite famous for being a motherland of top-of-the-line rosy and red wines, some of which are exported to even France. He also noted that Algeria`s wine production is on the increase every year.

"Nowadays you can purchase Algerian wines almost all over the world" said Amb. Ahriz "Also We thinking about exporting the Algerian wine to South Korea."

Amb. Ahriz said that several Algerian or Arabic cultural events are in store for next year. For one example an "Arabic Fair" to be participated by Algeria will be held in Seoul in the beginning of year 2005.
