Omer Meir Wellber to Debut as BBC Philharmonic Orchestra's Chief Conductor
Omer Meir Wellber

On July 23 and 29, 2019, Omer Meir Wellber will give his first concerts as the new chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and simultaneously his debut at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in London.

On the program of the concert on July 23 will be works by Mozart, Ben-Haim, Schönberg and Schumann, on July 29 Haydn’s Creation.

Omer Meir Wellber about his Proms debut and the collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

“I am looking forward to creating our own sound identity, built on these musicians in this orchestra playing in our way and in this moment. Then tomorrow, you can turn on the radio and recognise the BBC Philharmonic.”

The Principal Guest Conductor of the Semperoper Dresden will conduct the revival performances of Strauss‘ Rosenkavalier and of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the end of April and early May. On May 25 he will lead the premiere of Verdi’s Nabucco.

On June 14, Omer Meir Wellber will conduct the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen at the opening concert of this year’s Kissinger Sommer. On June 18, the conductor and orchestra will be guest at the Bachfest Leipzig, where they will present eight fugues from Bach’s “The Art of Fugue” in new arrangements by international contemporary composers.
