UAE Embassy in Seoul Focuses on 2019 Parliamentary Elections for FNC
The UAE Embassy in the Republic of Korea made its preparations to enable UAE citizens in the friendly Republic of Korea to participate in the 2019 parliamentary elections for the Federal National Council (FNC).The doors of the UAE Embassy in Seoul were open on Sept. 22-23, 2019 to welcome UAE citizens currently in the Republic of Korea to cast their votes at the polling station set up at the Embassy in Seoul. The organization of the current parliamentary elections reinforces the experience of the UAE in enabling its citizens to contribute effectively to the decision-making process in the country. This year's election was the fourth experience in the electoral field after three successful electoral experiences in the past. The current elections also stem its importance from the fact that they came following the directive issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, in late 2018 to increase the representation of women in the FNC membership to up to half of the members. This directive comes out of the belief of our wise leadership of the capabilities of women and their active role in the process of development in the country.Increasing the representation of women to half of the members of the FNC empowers women and enhances their participation in parliamentary life, placing the UAE in a leading position at the regional and international levels.
