Pakistani Envoy to Leave Seoul in June
Pakistani Ambassador to Seoul Khalid Masood posed at his Residence with his friends

Pakistani Ambassador to Seoul Khalid Masood will host a dinner for his friends at his residence in Seoul. Scores of local and international people in various sectors including media circle are invited for the farewell dinner for the top Pakistani envoy. The guests will be treated with traditional homemade Pakistani cuisine.

Amb. Masood is expected to leave Seoul in June, 2007, rounding up the 26 months of his ambassadorial service in Seoul. He will get a position at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Amb. Masood arrived in Seoul for his ambassadorial mission on March 20, 2005. Prior to his diplomatic service in Seoul he served as deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, New York.

Amb. Masood is recognized as one of the most active and industrious foreign envoys serving in Seoul. For the past ambassadorial years in Seoul he has been very active attending any functions or events and meeting with anybody upon request.

His Korean wife, Sonia Masood, has been a great help for Amb.Masood 's efforts to boost mutual friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and South Korea.

Amb. Khalid Masood was born on Dec. 30, 1955.

He majored in international relations at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. He received master degree from the university.

In 1979 he started his diplomatic career by joining the Foreign Service of Pakistan. He worked at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Two years later he was sent to Tokyo for Japanese language training there. He stayed in the Japanese capital until 1981. After the study he came back to the foreign ministry and worked as desk officer in charge of Canada and Latin America. In 1984 he became protocol officer at the ministry.

It was in 1989 that he came to Seoul to work at the Embassy of Pakistan in Seoul as a second secretary. Soon he was promoted as first secretary. After three years in Seoul he went back to Islamabad.

In 1992 he was promoted to director. He was in charge of China, Japan, and two Koreas at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 1995 he went to London to work as a counselor at the Pakistani Embassy there. Three years later he was sent to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He stayed there for about three years.

In the year 2000 he was a director in charge of American affairs at the ministry. And one year later he was promoted to director general for policy planning at the ministry.

In 2005 he became deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, New York.

He is married to a Korean wife Sonia Masood (Korean name: Song Sung-Hee). They have one daughter and one son.
