French Ambassador to Seoul Philippe Thiebaud
revealed a master plan for hosting the first FranceExpress arts festival on Sept. 18, 2007.

In a press conference held at Centre Culturel Francais (French Cultural Center) in Seoul at 11:30 a.m. on the day, the French envoy stressed high-quality and diversity as the characteristics of the 2007 France Express art festival.

The conference drew a host of local journalists including the Big Three broadcasters MBC, KBS, and SBS.

Renowned local journalist Lee Jong-Ho, also a famous dance critic, attended the conference as a panelist. Lee also serves as president CID (Conseil International de la Danse)-UNESCO Korea Chapter and artistic director of SIDance Festival.

SIDance is the co-partner of the FranceExpress art festival in the dance program this year.

Other panelists included Jean-Luc Maslin, cultural counsellor of the French Embassy in Seoul and director of the French Cultural Center in Seoul, and Jaen-Guy Lecat, French artistic director and theater consultant currently in Seoul from Paris.

A total of 20 majors art events are planned between Sept. 28, 2007 and Oct. 20, 2007.

The French cultural events include dances, exhibitions, dramas, films, and concerts.

The festival will be conducted on the three principles of top-quality, partnership between South Korean and France, and involvement of young Korean people, said Amb. Thiebaud.

President Lee Jong-Ho of CID-UNESCO Korea Chapter

"the Franco-Korean Friendship Year of 2006 was quite successful and satisfying," said the top French envoy at the start of the conference.

He said that last year 1.5 million paying visitors and spectators attended some 80 French cultural events held in South Korea in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of Franco-Korean diplomatic ties.
