Envoy's Wives Take on Flower Arrangement
UAE Envoy & Wife Showcase Their Style of Flower Art
Mrs. Aida Benjemia Al-Maainah (3rd from right), wife of UAE Amb. Abdulla Mohammed Al-Maainah poses for camera with wives of other foreign ambassadors serving in Seoul at a flower arrangement exhibition held in a Seoul hotel on Jan. 28, 2008.

Mrs. Aida Benjemia Al-Maainah, wife of UAE Ambassador to Seoul Abdulla Mohammed Al-Maainah, unleashed her artistic vision at a reception celebrating the Im Wha Kong Flower Arrangement Society's 78th Flower Arrangement Exhibition, 2008. The show boasted traditional Korean art mixed with a foreign flare and provided attendees with a fascinating evening.

Hosted at the Westin Chosun Hotel on Jan. 28, 2008 the actual exhibition opened for the public on the following day and is available for art enthusiasts throughout February.

Over 200 people came to offer their support for one of South Korea's oldest forms of expression. Ambassadors, their better halves, and other VIPs involved in the art scene were there in force enjoying the visual infusion of culture and tradition.

Mrs. Al-Maainah is no stranger to the art scene in Seoul as she has participated in the Korean Handicraft Art Exhibition(2005 and 2006) and the 16th International Art Festival in 2007.

This is her third year with the Im Wha Kong Flower Arrangement Society as well. This year she wanted viewers to get "a feel of the elements of the UAE mixed with a South Korean flavor."

Sand from her native country as well as plants were evident in her display. She tried to capture the natural feeling of the desert and according to her "even in a place as desolate as the desert, there is still beauty, there is still life."

When asked what she like most about the show she claimed "it's how the artists put a part of their essence into the arrangements, whether it's by portraying a personal expression or a taste of their country of origin."

Also showcasing art at the event were the wives of the ambassadors to the Uk, Sweden, Norway, Ecuador, and Colombia. Chairwoman Kim Chong-Sook of the Seoul Garden Club could also be seen enjoying the exhibition.
