Lecture on Effects of Environmental Disasters on Agriculture to Be Held at Ewha University
Prof. Pierdomenico Perata

Next Friday, May 9th (h. 9.15-10.45 am) at Ewha Womans University in Seoul (Auditorium B101, Engineering Hall) the Office of S&T of the Italian Embassy in Seoul and the Italian Institute of Culture, in cooperation with Ewha Womans University (Severe Storm Research Center), will hold the Seminar "DEALING WITH TOO MUCH WATER: PLANT RESPONSES TO SUBMERGENCE" to scientifically address the issue of effects on plants and crops of environmental disasters like water flooding.

Global warming, climate change and their dramatic consequences are seen as a security issue of the present century and a threat of deep changes to human life. The Seminar will offer the opportunity to reflect on often underestimated consequences of climate change like the flooding events. Flooding is indeed one of the most important environmental stresses worldwide and results in dramatic effects on growth and yield of crop plants, as well as on economic and social life of affected areas.

The Lecturer will be Prof. Pierdomenico Perata, one of the most experienced specialists at the worldwide level on the physiology of plants under flooding conditions. Prof. Perata is a full Professor of "Plant Physiology" at the famous Scuola Sant'Anna of Pisa, one of the best universities in Italy.
