Amb. to Seoul Philippe Thiebaud and his wife Francoise Thiebaud

As elsewhere in Paris and the rest of the world the biggest national day of France "Bastille Day" was celebrated in Seoul as well with the top French envoy hosting a massive reception at his residence in the capital of South Korea on July 14, 2008.

The reception hosted on the day by French Ambassador to Seoul Philippe Thiebaud and his wife Francoise Thiebaud attracted hundreds of both local and international guests.

The French Embassy in Seoul said on the day that as many as 400 guests — local politicians, businesspeople, artists, scholars, media people, as well as foreign diplomats — were invited to the party held at its mission in Hap-dong, Seodaemun-gu.

Among the high-profile guests was Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kim Yang who delivered a congratulatory speech in celebration of the most meaningful day for the French people.

Fifteen foreign ambassadors operating in Seoul also came to congratulate the French ambassadorial couple on its national holiday. Mr. Alan Timblick, head of Seoul Global Center, brought his wife Mrs. Timblick to the reception.

Bastille Day is the French national holiday, celebrated on July 14 each year in Paris and the rest of the world's major cities. Bastille Day is also called Fête Nationale, which means national celebration.

Bastille Day commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789.

In Paris on the day, French people celebrated Bastille Day with a huge military parade down the Avenue des Champs-Elysees in its capital. 4,000 soldiers and police marched with the participation of 65 aircraft and 241 mounted horsemen. The marching troops saluted the French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
