Amb. Baas Greets German Publishers in Seoul
German Envoy Attends Opening of "Die Galerie Seoul"
Opening ceremony of "Die Galerie" in Seoul

German Ambassador to Seoul Norbert Baas held a reception for a group of visiting German magazine publishers at his residence in Seongbuk-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul on Feb. 9, 2009.

Some 50 members of the Association of German Magazine Publishers came to Korea on Feb. 8, 2009 for four day visit.

The German delegation consists of 16 high level directors from different renowned German magazines. They will meet with representatives from the Korean media and IT-business.

As Korea is one of the leading countries with respect to mobile phones and internet, the German delegation is looking forward to deepening contacts and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between German and Korean media and publishing houses.

Earlier on Feb. 6, 2009 Amb. Baas attended the opening ceremony of "Die Galerie" in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul's posh southern area.

With headquarter in Frankfurt/Main, the leading German gallery opened its first dependence "Die Galerie Seoul" in the South Korean capital.

Amb. Baas delivered an opening speech to the first presented exhibition Figurative German Art with paintings and sculptures of such leading contemporary representatives as Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, A.R. Penck, Markus Lüpertz, Jörg Immendorff, and Volker Stelzmann. Other artists will also participate.

In direct cultural exchange of both countries, Die Galerie presents in Frankfurt/Main the large group exhibition Figurative Korean Art from Jan. 28 to March 28, 2009.

The opening speech will be held by Mr. Ph. Roh Taekang, head of the Culture Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.
