Hanmi Rotary Club Hosts Charity Auction
Mrs. Aida Al-Maainah Helps Organize Luncheon Meeting
Mrs. Aida Al-Maainah (right), wife of UAE Ambassador to Seoul Abdulla Mohammed Al-Maainah, receives a gift from Chairwoman Yim Mi-Kyung (to her left) of Hanmi Rotary Club.

Mrs. Aida Al-Maainah, wife of UAE Ambassador to Seoul Abdulla Mohammed Al-Maainah, helped organize a local Rotary Club meeting at her residence in Seoul's Hannam-dong on June 8, 2009.

A source of the UAE Embassy in Seoul said that the weekly meeting of Hanmi Rotary Club was held at UAE envoy's residence in celebration of the ambassadorial couple's becoming honorary members of the club.

The "Hanmi Rotary Club" chaired by Yim Mi-Kyung is one of the 1,459 Rotary clubs in South Korea. There are 60,121 South Koreans are members of the Rotary clubs in the nation.

A total of 11 key members attended the 308th regular gathering of the Hanmi Rotary Club, which boasts some 70 members.

There was an auction for charity as each of the participants brought items including clothes, pottery and paintings.

All the proceeds would be spent for the needy children overseas.

The charity auction followed a UAE-style luncheon prepared by the embassy.

This is the second time the Hanmi Rotary Club gathering was held at the residence, according to the embassy source.

Chairwoman Yim Mi-Kyung currently serves as music professor of Suwon University. Prof. Yim is internationally-acclaimed pianist.

She has been leading the club for the last two years.

"Each of our members brought an item they cherish the most," she said. "A lot of clothes were auctioned off this meeting."

Prof. Yim said that she has been an ardent member of the club for the last five years.

"Our efforts are focused on children particularly through the music," she said. "We have a chorus of about 10 men and women."

Prof. Yim said that her club members also visit needy folks in the remote areas where they have no medical care at all.
