"I'm Going to Die!"
Terrified Emergency Call of a Woman Whose Car Was Pushed Along a Motorway by a Truck

Terrified Emergency Call of a Woman Whose Car Was Pushed Along a Motorway by a Truck

Here in the UK, you can often hear motorists complaining about the behaviour of lorry drivers and those we call “white van man” – men in Ford Transit vans. They act like bullies on the road, especially motorways, often tailgating and intimidating other drivers.

For 31 year old vet, Rona Williams, of York, in the north of England, things reached a terrifying new height when her little Renault Clio was clipped by a large tanker truck which twisted her sideways. She was then trapped under the truck’s front bumper and was shunted at speed along the A1(M) motorway in the north of England until the driver finally spotted her. Footage of the incident has since appeared on Youtube.

During the horrific incident, Mrs Williams, a veterinary surgeon with a practice in Garforth, in Yorkshire, made an emergency call and screamed to the operator, “I’m going to die! I’m going to die – can you help me?” She later told reporters that she feared she was going to be rammed into the central reservation and killed.

The incident, which took place on 19th January, is now being investigated by police and the owners of the truck, Arclid Transport.

Hopefully, the investigation will result in tougher controls on lorry and van drivers, who are often filmed engaged in extremely dangerous driving practices and bullying other drivers. The A1(M), for instance, is only two lanes in parts.

From personal experience, I can say that there are times when you take your life into your own hands by daring to enter the right hand overtaking lane to pass another vehicle. For the white van men, this is a major sin and an act of trespassing into their exclusive territory since – in their minds – they actually own the roads.

So, while overtaking the vehicle you may find one of these motoring despots bombing up behind you, flashing their headlights and getting so close to the back of your car that they should be buying you dinner for getting so close.

There are those who brag about how they deliberately slow down when this happens to upset the white van man further. There are others who have wound up dead from following this line of action and being rear-ended by one of these maniacs.

Let’s hope that the video on Youtube will shock enough of the right people to finally do something about these people and avoid a repeat of this terrible incident.
