"Day of Russia" marks the beginning of democratic reforms in Russia and is one of the newest holidays in the Russian Federation.

On this June 12, 20 years ago, Russia Russia adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty, establishing the modern and democratic principles: the rule of law, the equality of all citizens before the law, and the separation of powers.

Russian Ambassador to Seoul Konstantin Vnukov makes a speech at ceremony of Day of Russia held at its residence in Seoul on June 11, 2010.

He also noted that this year marks the 20 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between Moscow and Seoul.

In particular, Minister Yu pointed out that many South Korean business conglomerates including Hyundai, Samsung, LG, and Daewoo are creating myriad jobs in Russian soil.

A variety of cultural events are planned in observance of the 20 years of diplomatic ties.

A comprehensive package of cultural exchanges was signed between South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev when Lee visited Moscow in September of 2008.

Through the agreement a variety of cultural and academic events will be held in this year.

Diplomatic, strategic, and environmental gatherings were either held or to be held in both countries.

K.V. Vnukov on the occasion of "Day of Russia"

Ladies and Gentlemen!

It’s a pleasure to welcome you at the reception in the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea on the occasion of the National Day of Russia. The 12th of June is a special date in the modern history of our country, symbolizing the aspiration of Russian people to modernize economic, social and cultural life of the country and to step up to the new stages of development, which would provide prosperity and well-being to Russia for decades ahead. Such are the aims which have been set for the Russian society and diplomacy by the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. D.A.Medvedev. I consider these tasks are also accordant in many respects to the strategic targets of development of the Republic of Korea.

Nowadays modern Russia and the Republic of Korea are tied together by the 20-year-old fruitful cooperation. Both of our states work actively to lead mutual relations to the level of strategic partnership. We have all preconditions for the achievement of this goal. There are no contradictions or disputes between us. We cooperate successfully in all the areas of politics, economics and culture. Our interaction is carried out both in the sea, on the surface, and even in the space. It is important to underline that our cooperation is not directed against the third countries. It is aimed at promotion of peace and happy life not only of Russians and Koreans, but also of all the people of Northeast Asia.

Celebration of the 20-th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries is entering into the active phase. This anniversary is marked by the wide range of events, which take place in Moscow, Seoul as well as other cities and regions of Russia and the Republic of Korea. I am confident that numerous exhibitions, concerts, scientific symposiums, in which thousands of our citizens participate, will promote the further deepening of mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Russia and the Republic of Korea.

The most significant event in the political life of our two countries will be the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Dmitry A. Medvedev, which will take place in November 2010 on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul. The forthcoming visit, undoubtedly, should become a starting point of the qualitatively new stage in the Russian-South Korean political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation.

I would like to propose a toast:

To further strengthening of partnership between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea!

To prosperity of the Russian and Korean people!

To health and success of all the Ambassadors of foreign states, who are present at this reception, and of all Russian and Korean friends!

Full text of S. Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-Hwan

Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I am honored to be here tonight with you to celebrated the Day of Russia.

On behalf of the Korean government, I would like to congratulate the Russian government for the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

It is a great pleasure for me to note that this year also marks the 20th anniversary of Korea and Russian relations.

And throughout the year, various cultural events will be held to celebrate the two decades of our ties.

During these years, our bilateral ties have witnessed remarkable growth.

And particularly in 2008, the bilateral relationship between our two countries was upgraded to a strategic cooperative partnership.

Since then, both our countries have worked closely together to further strengthen our cooperation.

I am pleased to see that our bonds of cooperation are taking ever more diverse forms.

Korea's expanding investment in Russia is one clear evidence of our deepening ties.

many Korean companies in Russia, including Hyundai, Samsung, LG, Lotte, and Daewoon, have proven to be reliable partners, manufacturing made-in-Russia products and creating jobs in the Russian society.

The Korean government and its people are also delighted to have the honor of receiving President Medvedev in November.

We in Seoul are working closely with our friends in Moscow to enture the success of the visit.

With President Medvedev's visit, along with various cultural events commemorating the 20 years of our ties, I am confident that this year will prove to be a milestone in the history of our two countires'
relations.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Now I would like to intive you to join me in a toast to an everlasting friendship and strong bonds between Korea and Russia as well as to the health and hapiness of all of us here tonight.

Thank you, Spasibo!
