India's Defence Minister AK Antony Meets with S. Korean President Lee Myung-Bak in Seoul
India's Defence Minister AK Antony (left) meets with S. Korean President Lee Myung-Bak at Cheongwadae or presidential Blue House in Seoul on Sept. 3, 2010.

India's Defence Minister AK Antony, currently on an official visit to Republic of Korea, had a meeting with President Lee Myung-bak in the afternoon of Sept. 3, 2010.

It was noted that the two countries are now Strategic Partners and, after the State Visit of President Lee Myung-bak to India in January this year, bilateral ties in several fields like defence, trade, scientific research, have gathered remarkable momentum.

The dignitaries noted that India and RoK share common values and understanding on issues of regional and global security.

Earlier in the day, Minister AK Antony held wide ranging discussions with his South Korean counterpart Kim Tae-Young on a variety of issues, with particular focus on defence co-operation between the two countries.

The visit has been particularly fruitful as it has resulted in the signing of two memorandums: one on Defence Co-operation and the other on Co-operation in Defence R & D, between the two countries.

These MoUs are designed to provide a boost to the ties between the defence forces of the two countries and pave the way for increased interaction in the future.

Mr. AK Antony also called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-Hwan and expressed satisfaction at the close co-operation and the shared visions of the two countries.

They exchanged views on anti-piracy, disaster relief and other areas of mutual interests.

Defence minister’s visit has resulted in many fruitful discussions and has paved the way for stronger future relationships between ministries of defence of the two countries.
