Sylmar, Los Angeles — A 19-year-old exchange student from South Korea died on Friday (Dec. 17, 2010) from head injuries sustained in a fight with a fellow Korean exchange student at First Lutheran High School in Sylmar, police said.

The fight was reported about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when Los Angeles police from the Mission Station were requested at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, said Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Section.

Jin Su Lee, a 19-year-old male, was in critical condition that afternoon with possible brain injuries sustained during a fight at First Lutheran High School, Borihanh said.

Lee had been in an argument with a 17-year-old boy who is also a foreign exchange student from South Korea, which escalated to a fight, Borihanh said.

Lee sustained head trauma and he was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, Borihanh said.

Lee was pronounced dead today at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, Borihanh said.

The 17-year-old who fought with Lee on Tuesday was arrested today and detained at Sylmar Juvenile Hall, Borihanh said.

A case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office which deferred filing of criminal charges against the 17-year-old pending results of an autopsy, Borihanh said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner had not received Lee's remains as of 11 p.m. an an autopsy had not been scheduled, a coroner's investigator said.
