Russian Envoy Confers "Pushkin Medal" to Korean Professors in Seoul
Russian Ambassador to Seoul Konstantin Vnukov (center) makes a speech before he confers the "Pushkin Medals."

Konstantin Vnukov, Russian Ambassador to Seoul, conferred "Pushkin Medal," a Russian State Medal, to the Korea University President Lee Ki-Su and four other university professors at the award ceremony held at its embassy in Seoul on Jan. 31, 2011.

The Russian envoy recognized the South Korean professors for thier contributions to the Russian-Korean partnership in the field of science and culture.

The other recepients of the Russian State Medal were Prof. Lee Se-Ung of Seoul Cyber University, Prof. Eom Gu-Ho of Hanyang University, Prof. Kim Hyun-Taek of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Prof. Kang Duck-Soo of Hanyang University of Foreign Studies.

Following the award ceremony, Amb. Vnukov and Madam Yulia Vnukova threw a reception with the Russian style dinner.

Professors from universities such as Hanyang University, Hankook University of Foreign Studies, Kyungnam University, Korea University, and Seoul Cyber University were invited to the award ceremony and the dinner reception.

Others who also got invited to the event were former ambassadors to Russia and officials from the South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), National Assembly, the Ministry of Culture, and Russian-Korean Associations.

The "Pushkin Medal," named after the great Russian poet, was instituted by Russia's Ministry of Culture in May, 1999. It is the most prestigious and honorary award presented to the Russian language researchers and scientists who make major contributions to the study and dissemination of the Russian language, literature, and the Russian culture as a whole.
