ETS Announces "2011 Scholarship Program"
30 Scholarships ($120,000) Will Be Awarded to Koreans

Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced today the launch of the 2011 ETS Scholarship Program for Korea. For the fourth consecutive year, this scholarship program will honor Korean TOEFL® and TOEIC ® test takers who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

ETS will recognize 30 scholarship winners (15 TOEFL test takers and 15 TOEIC test takers) by awarding US$120,000 in funding for study in Korea for the 2012 academic school year. Scholarship applications will be accepted now until July 29, 2011. ETS Scholarship Winners will be publicly announced in October 2011.

“Since 2008 ETS has recognized talented Korean students who have excelled in the field of English language learning through the ETS Scholarship Program,” said Walt MacDonald, executive vice president and chief operating officer at ETS. "ETS is extremely pleased to continue to honor academic excellence of Korean students, and assist them on their academic journey for study in Korea.”

In order to be eligible to apply, a scholarship candidate must:
be a university student who is currently seeking a bachelor’s degree at a Korean-based university have a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4-point scale (3.225 or above on a 4.3-point scale, 3.375 or above on a 4.5-point scale) demonstrate English proficiency as evidenced by a valid TOEFL iBT® score or valid TOEIC® Listening and Reading score or TOEIC® Speaking and Writing scores.

The ETS Scholarship and Recognition Program (SRP) group, which annually administers millions of dollars in new and renewable awards in the United States and abroad, is coordinating the ETS Scholarship Program in Korea. In addition to program consultation, SRP developed application materials and guidelines for the review of the applications.

With more than six million tests administered globally in 2010, the TOEIC test is the largest and most widely used English-language assessment for the workplace. The TOEIC test is used by more than 10,000 companies, institutions, organizations and government agencies in 120 countries worldwide.

Fifteen US$4,000 TOEIC scholarships will be awarded to university students studying in Korea. More information regarding the TOEIC test is available at

For more than 45 years, the TOEFL test has been the most widely accepted English language assessment worldwide. Currently, more than 7,500 colleges and universities accept the TOEFL test in more than 130 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Globally, the TOEFL test is available at more than 4,500 testing centers in more than 165 countries. To date, more than 25 million students have taken the TOEFL test.
