Gangnamgu Mayor Shin Yeon-Hee to Visit ROK Navy’s 2nd Fleet Headquarters
Gangnamgu Mayor Shin Yeon-Hee

Mayor Shin Yeon-Hee of Gangnam City (Gangnamgu) and some 200 of its residents will visit the Second Fleet Headquarters of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy in Pyeongtaek in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province on Oct. 31, 2013, Gangnamgu Office announced recently.

The office said that Mayor Shin’s visit to the headquarters would be made in her efforts to boost morale of the military men and women belong to the naval headquarters, who suffered from the tragic explosion of Cheonanham corvette three years ago.

On March 26, 2010 Cheonanham corvette of ROK Navy carrying 104 soldiers sank off the country's west coast near Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea, killing 46 seamen. A South Korean-led investigation concluded that the warship had been sunk by a North Korean torpedo.

In Pyeongtaek Mayor Shin and her residents will visit the local military museum and the burial site of the late Major Yoon Yeong-Ha and five others who died during the second naval battle of June 29 of 2002 between South Korean navy and North Korean navy.

Mayor Shin will also bring members of her Gangnamgu Symphony Orchestra, pop diva Bada, and girl group Rainbow to entertain the officers and enlisted there.
