Swiss-American Speaks on Swiss Economic Success
Swiss Envoy WJörg Al. Reding Hosts Breakfast Seminar at Hyatt
Swiss Ambassador to Seoul WJörg Al. Reding

Swiss Ambassador to Seoul WJörg Al. Reding hosted a breakfast seminar on the economic success of the Switzerland at the Grand Hyatt’s Regency Salon in Seoul between 7 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 14 (Tuesday) , 2014.

The seminar was jointly hosted by the Institute for Global Economics (IGE), Federation of Korean Industries, and the Swiss-Korea Business Council.

For the seminar the embassy invited a Swiss author and entrepreneur to share his nation's economic success and possible implications for Korea.

R. James Breiding, a Swiss-American, who just published a book which explored the subject, spoke about his knowledge and experience of the economic success of Switzerland.

The son of a Swiss immigrant to the United States, Breiding traced his father’s steps back to Switzerland in 1984 to attend IMD Lausanne and later founded the Zurich investment firm Naissance Capital.

He honed his writing skills publishing articles on Swiss topics for The Economist magazine. He was awarded a fellowship from Harvard’s Center for International Development for his research on the Swiss economy.

The Swiss envoy said that Switzerland is a small country. Its geopolitical situation is similar to that of South Korea.

Even then, both Switzerland and Korea have not only survived but also become prosperous countries.

However, the envoy hopes, both nations will continue to work hard to excel. In this connection, both countries have many lessons to share, going forward.

This breakfast-presentation took place on Jan. 14, 2014, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt’s Regency Salon in Seoul.

The seminar was held in a round table discussion fashion to make it more interactive.

For the seminar whe Swiss envoy also invited many foreign and Korean ambassadors to the seminar.

Media people from KBS, Yonhap News, and Economist were also invited to the seminar.
