The demonstrators were urging the merchants of dog and dog meat to stop killing and selling dogs. The merchants confronted the protesters by shouting "Stop Interfering with Business" and "Legalize Dog Meat."Police were stopping the demonstrators from clashing directly with the dog merchants. The merchants included sellers and circulators of the dogs and dog meat. There were no physical conflicts during the one-hour anti-dog meat demonstration staged by the local animal rights advocates. The two groups traded shouting each other.Earlier on Oct. 8, 2015 members of "Anti-Dog Meat Friends (ADF)" staged demonstrations in front of the dog meat shops and restaurants in Moran Market. There are 22 dog shops and dog meat restaurants lined at the corner of the Moran Market. The dog meat gets circulated nationwide after it is produced at the professional slaughter houses but here at Moran Market live dogs are slaughtered illegally by the merchants for meat or for the menu at the restaurants. The dogs including pet dogs in steel cages get electrocuted by the merchants on the order of the customers for meat. The other dogs still in the cage get fed with intestines of the killed fellow dogs.A poll conducted by a government agency shows over 55 percent of the South Koreans have the experience of eating dog meat.Nearly 5 million dogs are slaughtered annually to be consumed as meat.
