Gerhard Schroder to Marry S. Korean Lady Kim So-Yeon 25 Years Under His Age
Ex-German Chancellor Nicknamed "Lord of the Rings"
Kim So-Yeon and Ex-German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder

The 48-year-old South Korean lady is known to be the fifth wife of the 73-year-old former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, South Korean media reported on Sept. 21, 2017, quoting the German news media.

It was two years ago at an international conference that Schroder met Kim So-Yeon, 25 years under his age.

At that time Kim was serving as the South Korean representative of the Economic Development Agency of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

In 2010 Kim became the South Korean representative of NRW's Economic Development Agency.

Kim is known to have studied in Germany. She finished her PhD course at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She was working in the fields of economy and industry in both Germany and South Korea as an interpreter.

Since their first meeting Kim has been helping Schroder, accompanying him in various official events.

In particular, Kim accompanied Schroder in his recent visit to South Korea. Recently Schroder met with South Korean President Moon Jae-In and its National Assembly Speaker Chung Se-Kyun.

Schroder visited South Korea on Sept. 11, 2017 on his three-day schedule. While Schroder in South Korea, Kim served as his interpreter in South Korea, accompanying him.

Kim is also known to help the former German chancellor with the translation and publication of the Korean-language version of his biography.

But, both South Korean and German media failed to report when they plan to marry officially.

Schroder reportedly announced his plan to marry Kim through his Facebook while he was explaining how and why he decided to divorce his wife Doris Kopf.

The former German leader and Doris had been living for 18 years since they wed each other in 1997. Doris was his fourth wife.

Due to his frequent marriage, Schroder earned his nickname “Audi Chancellor" for having as many rings as the German car maker's symbol.

The German leader became the butt of media attention
when he moved out of the home of wife No. four Doris in Hanover into a separate apartment.

His fourth wife Doris was working as a journalist before they married in 1997.

German media suggested that Schroder and Doris will continue to share parents' responsibilities for their children.

It was reported that Schroder and Doris adopted two Russian children from orphanages in St. Petersburg in mid-2000.

The lover of cigar Schroder is also called "Lord of the Rings" because of his successive marriages.

It was in 1968 that Schroder tied the knots with his childhood sweetheart Eva Schubach. But he divorced her only three years after.

The following year, Schroder married Anne Taschenmacher, a teacher and political activist.
