S. Korean Ambassador Shin Soong-Chull Decorated by Costa Rican Government

Mr. Shin Soong-Chull (申崇澈), former South Korean ambassador to Venezuela and Costa Rica, was decorated by the Costa Rican government on Nov. 21, 2017 for his contribution to the development of bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Embassy of Costa Rica in Seoul hosted a ceremony to honor the former South Korean career diplomat at the Millennium Hilton Hotel in Seoul on the day.

At the ceremony Mr. Shin was decorated by Costa Rican Ambassador to South Korea Rodolfo Solano Quirós.

Mr. Shin spent nearly three decades as a career diplomat of South Korean Foreign Ministry before he retired a few years back.

But, earlier this year Mr. Shin was appointed by the South Korean government as the "Cooperative Ambassador" or "Co-Op Ambassador," a honor position in charge of affairs of international financing, covering Middle and South American regions.

A seasoned foreign service officer Mr. Shin worked for over 30 years as a career diplomat mainly in charge of Latin American countries. He served as an ambassador to Costa Rica and Venezuela, respectively.

Mr. Shin also served as vice chairman of the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK) for several years.

In recent years Mr. Shin also functioned as an "advisory ambassador" for the local government of South Gyeongsang Province.

Mr. Shin became a career diplomat by entering the South Korean Foreign Ministry in 1977.

Since then he worked mainly on African Continent and in Latin America, serving as an ambassador of a number of countries in the regions.

Mr. Shin majored in international law at Korea University's Law College, graduating from the university in 1976.
