His Excellency Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, UAE Ambaasador to Seoul participated in KAIST 50th Anniversary International Symposium which was hosted by KAIST on Feb. 16, 2021 via online. The symposium was attended by global leaders in higher education and ambassadors to the Repulic of Korea and supported redefining KAIST’s future mission in the global community as part of commemorating KAIST’s 50th anniversary.

During the session, His Excellency Al Nuaimi expressed his congratulations for KAIST’s 50th anniversary and the success which has made over the past 50 years and best wishes for future. He mentioned establishment of Strategic Partnership relations between the two countries in 2009 and upgrade of the ties into Special Strategic Partnership in 2018, also start of cooperation between KAIST and Khalifa University (KU) with the establishment of the Partnership between the two countries.

In 2010, KAIST awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science and Technology for the service of humanity to H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces. It is noteworthy that the Joint Research Center between KAIST and KU was opened in 2019.

With regard to prospects for future collaboration between the two countries, His Excellency the Ambassador said that the UAE and ROK celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 2020, and this year, 2021, marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the UAE as a federation, and the UAE announced 2021 to be the year of preparations for the next 50 years "Toward the Next Fifty."

In addition, His Excellency the Ambassador stressed the Hope probe’s successful entry into Mars orbit, on Feb. 9, 2021, and that later this year, in October, the UAE will host EXPO 2020 in Dubai, adding that based on what has been accomplished over the past years, the UAE-ROK Special Strategic Partnership will continue for the next 50 years and beyond.

His Excellency the Ambassador highlighted importance of cooperation in expanding the scope of cooperation, by enhancement of cooperation in education and research especially in nuclear and energy sectors, and expansion of cooperation in science and technology, especially 4th industrial revolution technologies and new growth engines such as AI, AR, VR, IoT, etc, as well as reinforcement of collaboration in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and bio technology.
