Family of Dr. Kim Un-Yong Wages Court Battle
Late Dr. Kim Un-Yong
Editor's Note: The following is the letter to the editor from Helen Kim, daughter of late Dr. Kim Un-Yong, the legendary founder of WTF (World Taekwondo Federation).

Earlier this week (Feb. 17, 2021), a judgement was handed down at the Seoul Southern District Court concerning my late father, Dr. Kim Un-Yong, and his final legacy which is the Kim Un-Yong Sport Committee (KUYSC).

I was elected as president in Dec. 2017, after my father passed away unexpectedly (Oct. 2017).

As you know, Dr. Kim Un-Yong is probably one of the most famous and widely respected of modern-day Koreans, having founded the World Taekwondo (1973) and the Kukkiwon (1972) and having been a prominent IOC vice president who is credited with the adoption of Taekwondo as an Olympic sport (1994).

The Korean court verdict not only stated that the burglars, led by my father’s former secretary (Seo Hyun-Seok) and Lim Jae-Hyoun, were the legitimate owners of the KUYSC, but that I have committed "obstruction of business" (a crime under Korean law) against them.

Actually, they broke into and stole valuable property from the KUYSC offices (Aug. 27, 2019) while I was president, so it was the other way around!

I have attached a few background documents, including the Seoul Southern District Court verdicts dated Feb. 17, 2021.

Dr. Un-Yong Kim’s biography “Korea’s Olympic Icon, Kim Un-Yong’s Resolute Odyssey”, authored by David Miller (award winning sports journalist & Olympic historian) is available internationally.
