ABU DHABI(WAM) — Emirates Airline signed a three-year agreement on April 13 to become title sponsor of two Breeders' Cup races: the $2 million Distaff and the $1 million Filly & Mare Turf. It marks the first time one sponsor covered two of thoroughbred racing's eight season-ending championships.
The Breeders' Cup pact expands Emirate Airline's roster of international sports sponsorships that includes the $6 million Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race and the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. "The Emirates sponsorship expands our international affiliation with the corporate world," said D.G. Van Clief, Jr., the president of the Breeders' Cup Ltd. "We are confidant that Emirates Airline will provide an expanded platform for building worldwide interest in the Breeders' Cup. As part of the agreement, Emirates Airline will also sponsor the four "Super Saturday" TV programs that feature races leading up to the Breeders' Cup. Emirates Airline joins a Breeders' Cup sponsor lineup that includes Dodge for the $4 million Classic, John Deere for the $2 million Turf, NetJets for the $1.5 million Mile, Bessemer Trust for the $1.5 million Juvenile and TVG for the $1 million Sprint. The 2005 Breeders' Cup takes place at Belmont Park on Oct. 29.
