1st Int'l Highschool Football Tournament Held
German Embassy, EKF Sponsors Football Event
1st International Football Tournament for High School Students

On Oct. 22, 2005 — the Republic of Korea's National Day of Sports – the 1st International Football Tournament for High School Students took place at the Yong-in Football Club.

The tournament was organised by the German Embassy and the Europe-Korea Foundation (EKF) as an event paving the way to the World Cup 2006, where Germany will be happy to welcome the Korean Team.

Four teams participated in the inaugural tournament: a combined team from the German and French Schools, Kwangmun High School, Seoul International School, and SOS Children's Village.

Kwangmun High School won the tournament and the award for best player went to Yu-Suk Roh of the SOS Children's Village team.

The event was sponsored by ADIDAS Korea (main sponsor), Coca Cola Korea, Danone Waters of Korea, and Ach So! Bakery.

The Europe-Korea Foundation (EKF) was established in May 2001 as the charity arm of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea (EUCCK).

It was created with the aim to demonstrate that the European Union (EU) nations and businesses have keen interest in and affection for Korea not only in the field of economic cooperation but also in the areas of social welfare and cultural exchange.

EKF is a public foundation focusing in its work on improving relations between Europe and the Korean Peninsula as well as enhancing mutual cooperation. EKF will continue to strengthen ties between the EU and Korea through a variety of programmes, such as cultural exchanges, sports events, training seminars and projects promoting inter-Korean understanding and peace.

For more information, please contact Nicole Risse, EKF Director, at or at 02-725-0381/ 019-287-9495.
