America in Iraq
See, Which Way the Wind Blows
By Tanveer Jafri

US soldiers in Vietnam

A recent survey, keeping in view of the election of the American Congress, to be held in the near future shows that two third of American citizen, agree that America is yielding in Iraq. It is the opinion of not only common citizens, but an external affair senior officer Alberto Fernandez, accepted it also that America has given a proof of pride & folly in Iraq. According to Fernandez, the entire world is witnessing the American failure in Iraq. It is not only a failure for America but a state of sorrow for the whole area. In the meantime, during the news of a great change in the American policy especially the defence policy, George Bush has repeated once again that our aim in Iraq is clear & that is victory. To achieve that aim, we are changing our policies.

Previously, when the critics, who criticise the American interference in Iraq, compared Iraq with America-Vietnam war but the White House, at that time, didn't agree & even George Bush said it many a time that to compare Vietnam & Iraq is not proper. But, at present White House it self is feeling the sameness in circumstances of Vietnam & Iraq. Now the American army is feeling that to have complete control over Iraq seems not possible. If we have a perusal on the longest war of the world that is between America & Vietnam, we see that the war lasted from 1945 to 1975. The statistics, regarding this war, issued in April 1995 by the labour & Social Ministry of Vietnam state that about 2 million common citizens in North Vietnam & about 2 million common citizens in South Vietnam lost their lives. Most of the people died during 1954 to 1975, when America-Vietnam war was at the highest point & the Vietnamese, without caring for their lives were trying their best to defeat the American army. This war was being fought on the bordering areas of Cambodia & Laos in South Vietnam.

Presently, the America & its allies are being opposed everywhere in Iraq & on the average 50 persons are being killed everyday. At the same time, the interference of American army is being opposed in America. The same were the circumstances at the time of the Vietnam War. An estimate stated that about 6 lakhs 55 thousand citizens have lost their lives in Iraq by now. Statistics tell that America has so far spent 335,445,839,575 American dollars in Iraq military projects. What did America get from this huge expenditure failure, insult, heavy loss of lives & money & once again in the world, a defame for its being arrogant.

Not only American army but its main ally the Britain is also worried about the incidents of violence in Iraq. Presently, the circumstances are going from bad to worse, so as soon as possible, the Britain seems to be devising a way to get rid of the uncontrollable conditions. The statement of the British Defence Minister, Des Brown that he agrees to the opinion that says that Iraqi army can take over the control of the Southern part of the country within one year. British defence minister Brown made this statement at the time when a big change in America policy on Iraq is being thought of. Lieutenant General Peter W. Charlie, who is the chief commander of the American army in Iraq, sees the conditions in Baghdad as the mirror for seeing the conditions in Iraq. Since 2003, when the American army entered in Baghdad, the circumstances in Baghdad are changing from bad to worse. The American defence policy makers accept that the American forces must have control over Baghdad which is known as the pivot of Iraqi power. It is a blunder to think of controlling Iraq without having control over Baghdad. Lieutenant General Charlie who considers it not an easy task to have control over Baghdad goes to the extent of saying if Baghdad slips out of the hands it mean that control of Iraq has been lost.

Now the question arises, particularly for having control over Baghdad & to avoid that the circumstance may not be same in Iraq, as were in Vietnam, what changes will be brought by America in its policies? Political analysts are thinking over it in different ways. It is also being thought of that America may start a big plan to completely disarm the militia that has involved in its class struggle. Second thought is being given that America can play a trick in Iraq by dividing it on the basis of class. But division of Iraq will not get support from the present Prime Minister of Iraq, Noori Kamaal Al Maliki. Besides this, America can think of demanding help particularly from Iran & Syria, the neighbour countries of Iraq, for establishing peace in Iraq. As till now there are no signs of advancing of America in this direction but it is being thought over that Iraqi Prime Minister, Maliki, at his own level has started to ask help from Iran. It is not wrong to think that in turn, Iran may forward his own conditions before America, an old rival of it, for making the circumstances normal in Iraq. Clearly, if America wants to be co-operated by Iran, then Iran, most probably, will put a condition to let it go forward in its nuclear enrichment programme along with the guarantee of its security.

Now it is to see, which way the wind blows. How American Camel finds its way in desert of Iraq. Its detail will come out, on the year end, when American policy regarding Iraq is likely to be declared. But the present circumstances are sufficient to reach the conclusion that America will never have imagined about the blow that it had received in Middle Asia during the last three decades. Whatever George Bush may say, as an arrogant ruler, before the media, but the dreams of George Bush, to take hold of Iraq, has turned into ashes. It has happened in the same way as 1,400 years ago, in this very country Iraq at the place of Karbala, the dreams of an arrogant Syrian King Yazeed were trampled to the ground by the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain & his relatives.
