Are We on Right Track with Palestine?
By Thomas Emmon Pisano
US Correspondent
Old Map of Palestine

The Fattah and the Hamas have been entangled in an endless battle over the political rights to Palestine since the creation of the Israeli State in the early nineteen hundreds. Their power within the Palestinian state is at present a stalemate.

As the United States becomes more involved in the affairs concerning the rights of Palestine to have a permanent place in the world, these two factions are embroiled in a struggle, which may in effect queer the deal and cause the suffering of the Palestinian people to go on indefinitely.

It has finally come to be that America has begun to lay the groundwork for the creation of a Palestinian home; the issues of borders are of supreme importance to the leaders of both of these factions. I believe that borders are just an excuse to put aside the creation of a "home state," to squelch the hope, and to bring about more political conflict. The narrow mindedness of most Muslim leaders has been evident in the past, with the historical failures of peace meetings over little things like seating arrangements and dignities. The Muslim people have a deep-seated hatred for the Israeli State. They will risk a delay in negotiations for a Palestinian homeland in order to continue their war of attrition against Israel and its allies.

In essence, the Hamas and the Fattah are bound to cut off their noses to spite their faces. They must put aside these feelings of animosity and look at the broader picture. America's Secretary of State; Ms. Rice has brought to their attention this very same thing. They must grow into the world in which they are living and stop the circle of hatred, which surrounds them and their people. Our world must grow and all the people in it must see the opportunities, which will help them move towards a safe and happy future. They have to see the world in relationship to times and know that the future is willing to let them grow. Moreover, if they do not get what they want today, they can have enough to get them a little closer towards their goals. A little today and a little tomorrow is better than nothing at all forever. If you want something good, you have to work for it.

Surely, the world knows that the past has been unkind to Palestine, we know this and are willing to be favorable to their cause, but they must also know that the world is a big and vast place and their problems are but a speck of dust when it comes to the world and its people. We are a sympathetic peoples, we nations of the world, but our patients and attention can only be held for so long. I say to Palestine, strike while the iron is hot, make your move towards a "Homeland" while you have the support of the world and the strong nations, and put aside those things, which taste like bile and drink deeply of the cup of compassion as it is being handed to you.

This is a golden opportunity and it should be seized by the wandering State of Palestine before it ceases to exist, now is the time to take what you can get and work towards a brighter future and create a nation in which the children of Palestine can smile and be happy. Are your children happy now? No, they are not, so give them something to work towards and give them the brighter future they deserve. Now is the time for the suffering to stop.

The American government is willing to work with your people and the world by helping them get settled in a homeland, either with or without fixed borders, so what, at least it is a start. Your chance to make life better has begun; don't waste it on petty differences and hate.
