Why Saddam So Popular?
By Tanveer Jafri
Contributing Writer
Saddam Hussein

As Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain has been hanged but a worldwide controversy has started on this topic. As the so called government of Iraq have convicted Saddam Hussain for Dujail massacre & sentenced him to death but the persons of impartial reasoning in the world can very well think upon it that it was a mere American plot against Saddam.

Today the common people of the world feel that America has removed a hurdle from its way on the pretext of Dujail massacre. It is not so that only the Muslims are against Saddam Hussain's hanging or after his hanging only the Muslims are considering him hero. In fact every person who is against the dictatorial attitude of America has given him a place in his heart as a hero.

Now the question is that such a cruel dictator who is being told as responsible for the death of lakhs of people, how has achieved so much popularity among the people? Is Saddam getting more popularity after being hanged? In spite of the fact that people are knowing it that Saddam Hussain was cruel & for getting his hold strong as Iraqi dictator, he remained cruel his opponents. After knowing & understanding all these facts, not only the common people but many heads of state & responsible leaders also are expressing sympathy for Saddam & criticizing the drama of hanging.

Criticism of hanging has crossed the limits to the extent that in the last days Iraqi Prime Minister Noori-Al-Maliki had to warn the countries who were criticising the hanging of Saddam. Maliki openly expressed that the people who are opposing the hanging of Saddam Hussain are interfering in the internal affairs of Iraq. Doing so is like mocking the feelings of sufferers. Maliki also expressed that hanging of Saddam Hussain was not a political step. Maliki warned these countries that Iraq can review the relations with the countries criticizing Iraq.

A priest of Gaza Mosque, Abu Mohammad Salama expressed his reaction by giving an astonishing statement that America has given a message to all his yes saying countries of the Arab world that Saddam was not more than a scape goat that is sacrificed on the day of Baqreid. Perhaps only to give this message America has allowed for the day, Baqreid.

Otherwise the Bush administration that raises a voice of establishing peace in Middle East didn't feel it that hanging on this day of Baqreid will not leave a good impression on the Muslim world. But American government & its follower Iraq government didn't care for it. There is nothing to surprise that Kuwait, which had been a victim of Saddam Hussain in 1990, welcomed the step.

The president of Kuwait Parliament, Jasim Mohammad-Al-Kharafi said that hanging of Saddam had given Kuwait, not one festival of 'Eid' but given two. Even being a Muslim country, it expressed its joy & compared it with a joyful festival 'Eid.' At some places, Saddam is being equated with the dictators such as Hitler & Stalin. Then what is the reason of rising graph of popularity of Saddam? Why is the world looking at Saddam as a hero? Why the wave of sympathy rising high in his favour?

Its main reason seems that America is stepping forward successfully in its mission of making the rulers of the world, by its force, as its followers. But the Iraqi dictator, who once had remained an encouraged leader by America, strongly opposed this mission of America & as a result of it, he had to face the result, fell in trap laid by America & was hanged.

In fact a common man talks about these. A common man doesn't favour the colonization. A common man wants to see progress of the man, society & country by just & peaceful ways. As Saddam Hussain although knew the power of America but didn't bow before it even at the eleventh hour of his death & chose to die like a brave man even at the time of hanging, so this daring step of Saddam made him so popular.

Saddam's popularity & courage was seen by the world in 1990 when without caring for the military action of America he attacked Kuwait & stood strongly. At that time America had to struggle hard to make Iraq forces to leave Kuwait. In fact at that time, Saddam rose to be an Arab leader & became popular who had for the first time shown courage to stand before America.

However Iran & North Korea too don't agree with America just as Saddam remained. Whereas the Sunni Arab world is concerned, no Arab ruler has shown so much courage as Saddam did. Undoubtedly Saddam Hussain has fallen in the trap laid by America obstinacy in its mind & Saddam has risen as a hero in those hearts.

Saddam Hussain is not the only dictator in the world who has been hanged. If cruelty is the measure many more rulers are there in the history. But Saddam is the first dictator who in spite of his cruelty & obstinacy has become so popular. Although all the documents prove it that Saddam has been hanged by the Iraq administration but the world is itself reaching the conclusion, by watching the happenings in Iraq, that it is mere a trap & nothing else. It is not wrong to say that the American conspiracy, the Iraq government being a dummy government & the courage that Saddam showed at the time of being hanged have raised the graph of popularity of Saddam.
