"Cooperation of Proximity: Stakes and Perspectives"
Special Contribution
From Moroccan Embassy in Seoul
Ahmed Bourzaim, Moroccan ambassador to Seoul

The Kingdom of Morocco will organize, on the 6th and 7th of April 2007, in Rabat, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, the First African Conference on Human Development under the theme "Cooperation of Proximity: Stakes and Perspectives."

The organization of this conference emanates from Morocco's concern for the promotion of a balanced and harmonious global development through the reinforcement of South-South cooperation and the implementation of the engagements taken in diverse international Fora and in particular, those relating to of the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs).

This event, positioned between the adoption of the Millennium Development Goals, the Havana Program of Action and the Horizon 2015, will constitute a chance to assess achievements and allow for exchange and experience sharing in order to establish a concrete partnership between African countries, through a series of South- South and triangular projects aiming at building capacities for an integrated local development.

Three main themes will be approached during this meeting, in form of workshops:

— Capacity building in the framework of the Millennium Development Goals related to poverty reduction: presentation of national experiences with a special emphasis on the local capacities that need to be strengthened in order to ensure a better planning and design of projects in accordance with the MDGs.

— Gender Equality: review of the initiatives contributing to gender mainstreaming.

— Governance, for an efficient allocation and management of resources.

All African countries are invited to this conference together with EU, ADB (African Development Bank), other regional financial institutions as well as representatives of international and regional organizations in charge of development, including those of the United Nations and African and western NGOs.
