The Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul to host
1st Korea-Italy Symposium on Conservation & Restoration for Cultural Heritage
Director Luigino Zecchin of the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul

The Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul and the Central Buddhist Museum of Jogye Order will organize The 1st Korea – Italy Symposium of Conservation and Restoration for Cultural Heritage.

The Italy is the forerunning Country in the field of conservation of cultural assets. Jogye Order has most of the buddhist cultural properties in Korea. This symposium will be a good opportunity to interchange each other's technology.

We expect both sides to share the study of conservation science of cultural assets. Moreover we are sure that this cultural exchange will be the first bridge for each country to inform about their respective cultural heritage.

Three well-known Italian scholars, (Dr. Patrizia Miracola, Costanza Longo, and Manuela Zarba) are invited for the symposium. Their presentations are focused on "Basic Principle of the Method on Conservation," "Introduction of Schools for Conservation and Restoration in Italy." "Conservation of Polychrome Wooden Artifacts," and "Problems of Conservation and Restoration on Silk in Italy."

Three Korean scholars will introduce about the "conservation situation of Korean Temple's cultural properties," "Conservation of Buddhist Wooden cultural properties and Conservation of Korean Buddhist Painting," and "Paper Cultural Properties"

The symposium will be held in the Memorial Hall of Buddhist Culture and History of Korean Buddhism on the 24th of April, 2007.
