Consumers Choose World's Luxury Goods
1,000 Consumers Join Survey by Selection Committee

As South Korea is fastly becoming a testing ground of high-tech IT products and luxury goods, a project is in the offing for selecting the best of the luxury goods from the world's luxury brands including Korean ones. The process will be based on a survey of 1,000 consumers carefully chosend by the screening committee.

The World Luxury Brand Selection Committee, chaired by Yoon Myeong-Joong, was recently established with the aim of
advancing Korean goods into the ranks of world's most luxury goods. The committee will eventually winnow the real luxury items out of South Korea's and the world's most luxury products.

The contest for selecting "Grand Prize for the World's Luxury Goods Selected by Comsumers" will be held at JW Marriott Hotel Seoul in the southern part of Seoul on Nov. 5, 2007. The awarding ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. on the day.

The contest is co-hosted by the World Luxury Brand Selection Committee and the Korea Importers' Association (KOIMA).

It is sponsored by such famous organization as the French Embassy in Seoul, the Italian Embassy in Seoul, and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea (EUCCK).

From the local media The Seoul Times, online English-language newspaper, is the sole sponsor of this event.

The committee explains that the contest will go through the primary screening by a survey of 1,000 individual users of luxury products.

After the primary screening the products will be analyzed by the committee members who will evaluate their brand value, consumer's recognition, and the market situation, and so on.

The evaluation process will be based on the overall data analysis of each luxury item, and deliberation of each committe members to be composed of socially renowned figures.

General manager, Ms. Kang Hye-Ran of the committee's administration office said that Grand Prize will be awarded to the best product chosed among the luxury items of each category.

She said that not only such values as the evaluation of the product, brand value, and management philosophy, but also other values like creativity and traditionality will be the criteria for the selection.
