Local Filmmaker to Get Czech Silver Medal
in Ceremony to Be Hosted by Amb. Smetánka Dec. 14
Czech Ambassador to Seoul Tomáš Smetánka

Once a year, the Czech Embassy in Korea recognizes selected individuals for their initiatives that substantially contribute to improving mutual knowledge of the two nations and to widening and enriching their cultural relations.

This year, film director and screenwriter Kwangmo Lee, who is also president and CEO of Korean Film Art Centre BaekDuDaeGan,will receive the Silver Medal of the Czech Foreign Ministry. Czech Ambassador to Seoul Tomáš Smetánka will hand over the token of appreciation to Mr Kwangmo Lee in recognition of his activity in promoting Czech filmmaking in Korea.

Mr Lee organized afestival of films by Jiri Menzel in May-June this year, having presented one of the mostprominent Czech film directors and his works to the Korean audience. The festival took placeat CineCube, a movie theatre renowned for showing high-quality artistic films including many European masterpieces.

Last year, the award was given to Beseto Opera President Kang Wha-Ja, translator and CzechLiterature Prof. Kim Kyung-Ock and publisher Shin Hyun-Hun. In 2005, actor Jeon Do-Youn and other principal makers of the popular TV drama Lovers in Prague received the medals. The award will be presented during a party at the ambassador's residence on Dec. 14, 2007.
