Obstacles for Parvez Musharraf
By Tanveer Jafri Contributing Writer
 | President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan | Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf, at present, is above all the heads of the states in the world, which are face to face with the internal troubles & political instability. Musharraf had been running his uninterrupted rule, after walking on the footprints of many former generals since 1999, just after the Kargil incident. He ousted the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif & ruled smoothly even after the incident of September 11. But after 9/11, when the American President George Bush proclaimed for the two parts of the world & said that there are two ways to be followed. Either they should stand with me (America) or with the so said terrorism & there is no other way out. General Musharraf said yes to President Bush & favoured George Bush in his so said anti terrorist mission. After that, Parvez Musharraf was enemy number one for the Pakistani people who never liked American leadership & American policies. In this way the conservative Muslims & traditional anti-American people started to oppose Musharraf. Even the extremists in the Islam who were known to spread terrorism, who were ready to attack the American favour any where in the world, the Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, called General Musharraf as yes man of America. Al Qaeda said that General Musharraf was enemy of the Islam & ordered to attack him. After that there were many severe attacks on Musharraf. But he succeeded to save himself till now. Musharraf was being opposed by the hardcore extremists & others who were spreading the terrorist movement of the international organizations, at the time in July 2007 Pak army did operation Red Mosque in Islamabad. In that operation, a chief priest of that Mosque Abdul Rashid who was a fundamentalist was killed by the Pak forces. In this way the Talibani movement that was being nurtured in Pakistan became aggressive. This conservative Islamic thought that is nurtured in some religionist Madarsas which is known as the Talibans in the world, these people openly began to oppose Musharraf. As these people were not able to reach Musharraf easily, these terrorists began to challenge Musharraf & directly aimed at the Pak army & Pak rangers. In these serial attacks, the suicide human bombs were used at many places. The political organizations that were associated with the democratic setup made use of this worsening condition in Pakistan. Under this policy, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was to spend ten years out of Pakistan, tried an unsuccessful attempt to come back just after five years. But second time he succeeded in his attempt. Begum Benazir Bhutto, misfortunately, after spending eight years out of her country, came to her motherland. On one side Musharraf was face to face with the conservative thoughts, Talibani terrorism & anti American Muslims & during this period the pressure of the political parties that were in favour of democratic setup, increased. On the other side, Parvez Musharraf committed a blunder & dismissed Chief Justice of Pakistan Supreme Court Iftikhar Choudhary. By doing so he gave a chance to the lawyers & others in this line to stand against him. Musharraf said that Supreme Court was giving verdicts that were against the government & it was not cooperating with the administration. The increase in the number of enemies of Musharraf didn't stop here. The atrocities by Musharraf went on increasing. He even touched the media, well known for impartiality in the democracy. The news of attacks on television offices, the obstruction in direct telecast, ransacking, beating of the journalists, sending them to jail were there in Pakistan. In this way, media became against the dictatorship of Musharraf. In such conditions, no to say of Musharraf, no ruler can run the country smoothly. Musharraf was so much fed up with the constantly deteriorating conditions of Pakistan that he had to proclaim emergency on November 3, 2007. Musharraf explained to the public of Pakistan, about the necessity of proclamation of emergency in Pakistan. He tried to put forward the circumstances that Pakistan was facing these days. But the opponents of Musharraf & persons, organizations & leaders who were in favour of democracy & the chief sympathizer of Musharraf in the eyes of the world, American President George Bush, too criticized the emergency & asked to remove it & asked for the early elections. In this way Musharraf announced the date for election that was February 8, even before the political probabilities & ended the emergency. He resigned himself from its army administration & gave the responsibility of fair & just election to the election commission. What may it be called! A time of disaster for Musharraf, misfortunate time for the people of Pakistan or the sorrowful fate of the people of Pakistan, the popular leader of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto was assassinated during this period on December 27, 2007. The sacrifice of Benazir again put Parvez Musharraf in hot water. The death of Bhutto was seen as a conspiracy. Not only Pak government, Pakistan army, but Pakistan intelligence service ISI was also in doubt. Opponents of Parvez Musharraf got a chance to aim directly at Parvez Musharraf at such time. The anarchy in Pakistan after the death of Benazir caused an environment where hundreds of banks were looted, railway property was damaged & specially the offices of the election commission were damaged. During these days of looting, some incidents happened in the guise of looting which compel one to think that what the powers that were behind these incidents, are. These incidents were, a large scale plundering on the weapon shops & even run away with the weapons from there & even raiding the jails & get the dangerous prisoners released. The crowd got the prisoners released in which there were the prisoners who were accused of terrorist activities. On the address to the nation telecast on last January 2, President Musharraf called upon 'the people of Pakistan to get united against the terrorism & fundamentalists. If we don't succeed against them, the future of Pakistan will be dark.' He said it again that 'the roots of suicide human bomb are in extremist Madarsas. It is necessary to unveil it.' Musharraf has demanded help from media & public for it. now it is not possible to have election in the present circumstances in Pakistan & on the other side Pakistan People's Party is mourning for 40 days so under these circumstances, the general elections to be held on January 8 has been postponed to February 18. President Musharraf will have to face such like troubles till there is new democratic setup. But the point is, if President Musharraf will have to face such trouble continuously or he will ever be able to get rid of it.
