Crumbling Relations between American & Pak Armies
By Tanveer Jafri
Contributing Writer
Armed Talibanis in Kandhar

Pakistan is understood as one of the main ally of America. The sweet relations of America & Pakistan were clear when there was a two week war in 1971 between India & Pakistan & when there was a rise of Bangladesh. It is a separate matter that then Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, under her powerful leadership, ignored America & fought a decisive war with Pakistan & gave recognition to Bangladesh as an independent state. Since then, America has been helping Pakistan at economic & military level, in every day.

After the event of 9/11 in America, the relations between America & Pakistan became sweeter. Its main reason was America's declaration of worldwide war against terrorism & an open hearted cooperation of then Pak General Parvez Musharraf to help America in this mission. Pakistan helped America in this war against terrorism. For that it played a leading role to uproot the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, by the American allies. It even allowed America to establish a military base in Pak area near Pak-Afghan border. Since 2002 from the time of oust of the religionist Taliban government till now, there has been many ups & downs in the politics of Pakistan as well as that of Afghanistan.

On the other side, General Parvez Musharraf of Pakistan has become merely the President Parvez Musharraf. Even now the position of the President Parvez Musharraf is passing through a doubtful phase. Parvez Musharraf has got the elections done, as he promised. The former Prime Minister Begum Benazir Bhutto has laid her life because of terrorism. At present, all the religionist powers including Pakistan don't want to see Parvez Musharraf as President. Whereas Nawaz Sharif & Iftikhar Chaudhary is finding it a suitable time to take revenge with Musharraf. The two most corrupt persons in Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari & Nawaz Sharif have come in the forefront as the main leader of the democratic government of Pakistan. They are crying for the democratic values just to have their political revenge with Musharraf. Obviously, all these are not good omens for Pakistan. Not only this, this inner political up & down in Pakistan is becoming the result of re-strengthening the extremist Talibans in Pakistan, Afghanistan & at the border of Pak-Afghanistan.

Pakistan has been being accused of nurturing & giving shelter to the terrorists for a long time. The Talibans, who have ruled in Afghanistan, had even made their regular main office in Pakistan. At the time of NATO countries attack on Afghanistan in 2002, the Taliban spokesman used to address international media from Pakistan. Last year, the help & patronage to the Talibans by Pakistan was clear when Parvez Musharraf had to do Operation Red Mosque. There is news that the extremist powers, once again have gathered strength in large scale in Pakistan, Afghanistan & at Pak-Afghan border. Obviously, because of the active activities of the extremists, the American army is getting a chance to have its own way under the anti-terrorist mission.

On last June 10, the American Air Force did a missile attack on a tribal area named Mohmand at Pak-Afghan border. In that, 11 soldiers of Pak Army killed. It was not a first attack on Pak soldiers by American or American Allies Army. Before this, many a time, the American Army has done missile attack on Pak soldiers. And after every attack of this type, America condemns the attack in a very formal statesman way, easily. This time, the same happened. Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Jilani told it a strong blow on the cooperation of Allies Army & Pakistan. While saying, he aimed at the point of the missile attack of America on the Pakistan Army. Whereas the army allies NATO said that it was not from the Allies Army but from the American Air Force.

Although American Foreign Minister has felt sorry because of this missile attack inside Pakistan area that caused the death of Pakistani soldiers, but the American military department Pentagon is telling it an action under its rights. Pentagon while justifying this attack said that it was an action taken in self defence. It is being told that 8 Taliban fighters have been killed in this attack in Pak area near Afghanistan border. After this attack, again Pakistan has come under the doubt where it is being accused of helping the Talibans.

A few days back, a famous American Organisation Rand Corporation has published its fresh report, in which Pakistan has been accused of helping the Talibans. Rand Corporation has accused, in its report that persons of secret agencies of Pakistan have kept links with the Taliban extremists. According to the report, the members of Pak Spy Agency ISI are sending the economic help to the Taliban extremists in Afghanistan. Even there are allegations of giving medical help & even monetary help to the Taliban activists wounded in the army action. According to the report, the Pakistan sources are giving secret information regarding the Afghanistan Army & the foreign armies at personal level to the Taliban fighters. As a result of it, some American & NATO missions have been affected. On the other side, Pakistan government & Pakistan army have been denying these allegations. Pak has been always telling these allegations as baseless.

Now the question is, on one side Pakistan Army is a part of the mission of America against worldwide terrorism & as their allies, the Pak Army is an enemy number one of these activists. On the other side, to be in doubt for helping the Talibans. Not for one time but for many times, knowingly or unknowingly, have come under the American attacks. What does it hint? Obviously, all this is causing the fall of will power of the Pakistan Army. It is facing difficulties to face the anti-terrorist mission. There is a feeling of pain among the Pak Army because of the death of the Pak soldiers during the American military action. There is a possibility that such events may prove fatal effect on the relations of the American & the Pakistan armies. But there is possibility that it may be the inside ups & downs of Pakistan or taking part in anti-terrorist mission & seeing each other by the armies under doubt. All these circumstances will be helpful in increasing the terrorism. There is a possibility of hard blow to the anti-terrorism mission under these circumstances. And all the above circumstances are not good omens for the humanity.
