Pak: Unstable Politics and Terrorism
By Tanveer Jafri
Contributing Writer
The former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf

A game of lose and win is being played between Nawaz Sharif, chief of Pakistan Muslim league (Nawaz) & former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Asif Ali Zardari, chief of Pakistan people party & now President of Pakistan. These two are the two axes of Pakistan politics. These two are the main two political parties of Pakistan, PPP and Muslim league. But in the last general elections in Pakistan, it was assumed that after the killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, P.P.P. will come out as the main political party of Pakistan. And it happened. After the killing of Benazir Bhutto, P.P.P. in spite of sympathetic wave could not get majority but this party of assassinated Begum Bhutto succeeded to win the highest number of seats 124.

As Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, son of Begum Benazir Bhutto was not mature in age and experience so her husband Asif Ali Zardari rose to be a political successor to meet the challenge of government formation. There was an agreement between, Muslim league Nawaz Sharif who won 91 seats and PPP's Zardari. In this way a coalition government took hold of power. Obviously Pakistan people's party, being the greatest party won the highest number of seats as office of prime Minister was to come to it. Therefore Yusuf Ali Gilani was made the Prime Minister of Pakistan. But motive of Nawaz Sharif was different. He wanted to do all that at the earliest, without getting the office of the Prime Minister or President, probably what he would have done as a Prime Minister. Nawaz Sharif is feeling that when he was Prime Minister why General Parvez Musharraf did ousted him from power and put him behind the bars. Had the Arab country not intervened a different event may have happened. Musharraf exiled Nawaz Sharif and did not get him killed. Similar things happened with Benazir Bhutto. But the fundamental powers that grew in Pakistan and the struggle of the terrorists raised voices against Musharraf and Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif got the chance to come back to Pakistan.

There were general elections in Pakistan only because of great pressure of Pakistan population and American intervention. General Parvez Musharraf put off his military uniform and became president. Obviously, the present coalition in power could not see him in the office of president. After great struggle and discussions there was agreement between Nawaz Sharif and Zadari for the impeachment of musharraf. When Parvez Musharf for saw his defeat in this impeachment resolution he resigned as the president, just one day before the resolution was to put. It can be said that Nawaz Sharif succeeded in his one of the greatest motives. Now there was a movement for who should be the next President? And at the same time, Nawaz Shreef played another political card and asked for the immediate reinstatement of all the judges who were suspended by Musharraf. When Asif Ali Zardari tried to put off the reinstatement of the judges, Nawaz Sharif drew his support from the only five months old coalition in a dramatic way.

President Parvez Musharraf gave details of his eight years regime in a sensitive way in an address before giving his resign. But Musharrf seemed to be only dictator who loved democracy. Pakistan help to American Army in Iraq and Afghanistan and action of lal Masjid in Pakistan made Musharraf an enemy number one to the fundamentalists and the group that spread terrorism. It can be given a thought that when parvez Mussharraf was in power he had to face many fatal attacks on him. An attack on Benazir Bhutto was unsuccessful but she could not survive in the second attack. Nawaz Sharif was also aimed at by the terrorists but he got a narrow escape. The operation red mosque revealed the natives of the terrorists against Mussharraf and brought to open the activities of the terrorists.

Now it can be the easily guessed that how for the terrorist can go if Parvez Musharraf is away from the power of Pakistan and at the same time when politics is unstable there. Undoubtedly, the persons who have differences with Mussharaf and want to take revenge from him are happy to throw him away from the politics. They also favour for the trial against Musharraf. Now how will the present democratic government check the terrorists in an atmosphere of unstable politics? There was an attack on Pak prime minister yusuf Raza Gilani in Rawalpindi that resulted in the breakage of the window glass of his bullet proof car. Now the Pak edition of the Taliban is active in Pakistan. Tehrik-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) named organization is being seen as an extension of Alquida in Pakistan.

The tribal areas on Pak — Afghan boarder are becoming a hive for the Islami fundamentalists. It is being told that this area is the probably good hide for Osama Bin Laden and Eman al Jwahiri. It is also the news that wife of Jwahiri was seen in Mohmand area of this tribal region. On one side to become asylum for the members of Al- Qaeda and on the other side the welcome of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in Pakistan for Al – Qaeda makes easily understand that when a strong military commander like Musharaf could not control the terrorist organization, how can the white clothed, corrupt politicians control and challenge the terrorists. Although Asif Ali Zardari has ben elected president but along with the declaration of his president ship, a big terrorist explosion challenged in its own way and also presented its dreadful motives before the world. As Pakistan is equipped with nuclear weapons as it is a matter to worry that if the increasing boldness of the terrorists might over throw the Pakistan government and get control over the nuclear establishment.
