UAE Envoy's Wife to Lead Local English Education as Mayor of Seoul English Village
Mrs. Aida Al-Maaina Inaugurated as Villlage's 4th Mayor

Mrs. Aida Al-Maaina, wife of UAE Ambassador to Seoul Abdulla Mohammed Al-Maainah has been inaugurated as the fourth mayor of Seoul English Village.

In a inaugural ceremony held on Dec. 19, 2008 Mrs. Al-Maaina officially became the mayor of the Seoul English Village in Poongnapdong, Songpa-gu, Seoul.

The ceremony started at 5 p.m. on the day was attended by many foreign ambassadors and their wives. They included UAE Amb. Abdulla Mohammed Al-Maainah, Tunisian Amb. Mustapha Khammari and his wife Mrs. Latifa Khammari, Egyptian Amb. Reda El-Taify, Qatar Amb. Ali Hamad Mubarak Al-Marri, and Iraq Minister Counsellor Mayada A.Yaseen.

Mrs. Farida Hadid, wife of Algerian Ambassador Rabah Hadid, and Mrs. Hoida Bashir, wife of Sudanese Ambassador Mohamed Salah Eldin Abbas were also invited to the ceremony.

Mr. Kim Seok-Jung, executive director of Herald Media, Ms. Melissa Klopfer, principal of Seoul American Elementary School, and Mrs. Kim Jum-Ok, superintendent of Seoul Jungbu District Office of Education, and Ms. Sin Ok-Joo, principal of Seoul Youngseo Elementary School, were also among the participants.

In a speech Mrs. Al-Maaina thanked all the guests for coming. She also said that she will make as much contributions as possible as the mayor of the English village.

Established in 2004 the Seoul English Village is aimed at helping local Korean students with practical experiences. They can go through all the real-life experiences within the village.

The first mayor was Mrs. Mary Louise Heseltine, wife of the then Australian ambassador and Mrs. Pamela Morris served as its second mayor. Mrs. Morris was the wife of then UK Ambassador Warwick Morris.

In December of 2007 Mrs. Judith Schoeman, wife of South African Ambassador Stefanus J. Schoeman, was inaugurated as the third mayor. Mrs. Aida Al-Maaina replaced Mrs. Judith Schoeman.
