America An Open Letter on the Crisis of Hate between Israel and Palestine US Correspondent
The beginning of the year 2009 sees Israel in the middle of a war in the Gaza Strip. It is no longer a question of who fired the first shot, but who will fire the last shot that ends this bloody and endless conflict between Israel and Palestine. Rockets flare as the rest of the planet wants all to be resolved. Instead, Israel is determined to wipe the Gaza clean of the Hamas 'freedom fighters.' The problem is that none of the radical Islamic reactions to Israel (the Taliban, the Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and the like) will ever give up their vendetta against the Zionists and the West. In addition, Israel through sheer force of will and determination will never be pushed off the 'Promised Land' they now call their home. The reality of the thing is the state of Israel was planted by the Europeans so they would have a platform into the Middle East, which seems to be the case. Nevertheless, in settling the region they did to the Palestinian people the very thing that Europeans do everywhere they settle, they displace the indigenous peoples that have their lives in these disputed lands. So the refugees feel badly. They want to get even. Who can blame them? Nevertheless, enough is enough, we have had it with the dust, debris, and the carnage; it is time to move on to a better life. Is it obvious that Israel wants peace for Gaza? We want to look deep into the problem and see an honorable Israel for once, but what is going on in the Gaza is overkill to say the least. There is always going to be bad blood between these two peoples; their histories are too intertwined and their transgressions are too numerous for each facet of this ancient battle to give in to peace or be ignored by the rest of us. They had better do something soon because the world is now tired of this squabble. We know the issue is too complex for us to appreciate, but we must have peace and tranquility to survive. Is Israel justified in their destruction of parts of Gaza? They are determined to destroy the Hamas for the last time, except one thing; some other group of militants will just take up the banner of hate. There is no answer when it comes to war's destruction and the loss of the innocent. There is no answer when the problem is generational hate and prejudice. By killing and maiming these children, Israel is creating another generation of hatred – so the hate, killing, and the wars will never end. Pain and suffering is now to become a legacy for all involved in this ancient quarrel. What is keeping these people from talking? Why is there no dialog and why haven't they started serious negotiations long before this outbreak of war? It is a war no matter how you sugar coat it or make light of it – it is a vicious, useless war. Israel will for sure settle the score with this one and then some more will die for good measure. If a regional war ensues, then only the war-profiteers win and the rest of us will loose. The news media is trying to justify the killing and Israel's rolling into the Gaza Strip. While perpetrating this outrageous destruction of life and property, Israel is dragging us down this path of hatred with them. For us here in America this thing is a half a world a way, the people here see it as just another fight between these two historical enemies. However, the reality of the matter finds that wars in the Middle East can destabilize the region and consequently the world as a whole. A classic example of that is the folly that George W. Bush pushed on the American people with his war in Iraq. We mostly form our opinions from the news corporations that show their products on the television here in The United States and that shapes our way of seeing the world and our lives in general for that matter. In addition, our minds are shaped by the spin our government wants these corporations to put on the news. None will admit it but the press has lost its independent effectiveness the past few years in America. America is totally pro-Israel, it is a sacred cow, and we're blind to the facts because Israel can do no wrong in the eyes of this country. The reality of this situation is this; nothing ever gets resolved when it comes to Israel, the list of conflicts involving these people since 1917 is phenomenal. The Israeli government is extremely intolerant, prejudiced and at times down right hostile towards their Arab and Muslim neighbors. Playing fair is part of what keeps the peace with your neighbors – and Israel does not play fair with its Palestinian neighbors. I know I have said all this before in other essays but still we must not forget their track record if we are to evaluate the situation correctly. Hamas in The Gaza, needs to voice its wants aloud and clearly if they want peace in their lifetime. Reasonable demands need to be tabled so the real problems can be addressed. If the leaders of the Hamas government would send in a response to this newspaper it will be published and Israel if you would respond in kind I will see that all is out in the open for all to consider. War won't cure the problem, not now, not anymore. There is too much suffering in the world to allow this bloodshed to continue. Military action is too easy and it is the last way to resolve this situation. The hard part is asking for peace and talking to your hated neighbor. This action is very hard and takes bravery, a pure heart, and true hard work to achieve the goal of peace for your people. CHILDREN ARE THE TRAGIC CASUALTIES IN THIS CONFLICT BETWEEN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL Maimed and broken the children and the young are scarred booth physically and mentally by the ongoing Israeli / Palestinian conflict in the Middle East. It is the children who are the suffering members of a crippled society after the fighting stops. The survivors harbor resentments, which lasts the rest of their days, another life crushed by hatred and a need for revenge. These children will become a new generation of young to pick up the battle against their inflexible and intractable foe, Israel. By visiting war upon these young, Israel is assured a continuing threat and they will always have an enemy to fight and an excuse to be apprehensive of those people they have displaced from their ancestral lands. This age-old conflict will never be resolved by killing the children and crippling the future of peace. The days of beating your unruly neighbors into submission have passed; it is now time to swallow up pride and stop the pain and the hate, someone has to give way to peace and sanity. ![]() Is Islam to Rule the World?
