Duo Recital in Belgrade
Eugene Choi, "Jewel of the Han River" Plays with Famous Serbian Violinist Jovan Kolundzija

Belgrade, Serbia – On Nov. 5, 2009 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Serbia, Embassy of the Republic of Korea hosted the concert-duo recital of Korean pianist Ms. Eugene Choi and Serbian violinist Mr. Jovan Kolundzija to celebrate this special affiliation.

At the Kolarac Concert Hall, as the Majestic Duo began its tuning, silence fell upon the jam-packed hall. Proud Koreans, Diplomats, fellow musicians, and the like all waited with growing anticipation, and they would not be disappointed. The Majestic Duo played works of J. S. Bach, Rachmaninoff, W. A. Mozart, F. Liszt with effortless expertise, progressing through the symphonies with stunning expression.

The violin strings struck in unison with the powerful effect of piano was explosive. The Majestic duo moved easily between the pieces, making the crowd spellbound. When it was all over, applause erupted for several minutes.

After the concert, at the reception, the atmosphere among the guests was exhilarating. Two words echoed the room constantly: “Extraordinary performance” and “Concert of the Year.”

Many members of diplomatic community and high ranking Serbian governmental officials came to the concert to congratulate Korean Ambassador and Mrs. Kim Jonghae on this special occasion.

The guests at the Kolarac Concert Hall included: Mr. Ivan Simic, the Seoul Times European Director, Mr. Erwin Hofer, Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Georgi Dimitrov Dimitrov, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Toshio Tsunozaki, Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Chéhadé Mouallem, Ambassador of Lebanon, Mrs. Doris Brese, Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Alexander Konuzin, Ambassador of Russian Federation, Mr. Muhammad Chaudhry, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Ronald Van Dartel, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Nederland, among other notable guests.

This concert was finale of cultural events which was staged to commemorate 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two states. Concert was organized by Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, and supported by Korea Foundation, Belgrade City Government, Guarnerius Arts Center, Radio Television of Serbia, Samsung and Kolarac Foundation.

Ms. Eugene Choi and Mr. Jovan Kolundzija are scheduled to play again in Belgrade on December 10, 2009.
