Number of Colleges and Universities Accepting the TOEFL ¢ç Test Soars to More Than 7,500 Globally
Recognition Increases for the TOEFL test, the Most Widely Accepted English-Language Assessment
Princeton, N.J. (May 27, 2010) – Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced today that more than 7,500 colleges and universities in more than 130 countries, including the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Australia, accept the TOEFL ¢ç test, the most widely recognized English-language assessment worldwide.

For more than 45 years, the TOEFL test has provided higher education institutions around the world with an accurate and comprehensive measure to assess the English-language proficiency of non-native speakers.

¡°We are pleased that so many prestigious colleges and universities globally recognize the TOEFL test as a reliable English-language assessment,¡± commented Teresa Sanchez-Lazer, Executive Director of TOEFL Product Management. ¡°As significant numbers of international students continue to study abroad, the demand for a high-quality, objective English-language proficiency assessment will continue to grow.¡±

The TOEFL test is the only English-language assessment that incorporates both human and automated scoring to provide a fair and valid measure of an applicant¡¯s ability to communicate in English. Moreover, every TOEFL test is scored by a network of highly qualified reviewers who are continuously monitored to ensure the most objective and reliable scores.

To date, more than 24 million students globally have taken the TOEFL test and the number of test takers continues to increase. Convenient for students, the TOEFL test is the most accessible English-language assessment, available at more than 4,500 test administration sites in 165 countries. Students can now receive their scores online within two weeks, making the testing process more efficient and user friendly.

A complete listing of the more than 7,500 colleges and universities that currently accept TOEFL scores can be found at the TOEFL Destinations Directory. More information regarding the TOEFL test, including registration, study tips, and sample questions, is available on the TOEFL Go Anywhere Website.
