![]() UAE Ambassador to Seoul Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi hosted "Road to COP28 in the UAE" in Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul on August 31, 2023 as a pre-event of "COP28UAE" or officially 28th Convention of Parties (COP) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to be held at Expo City, Dubai in Nov. 30 through Dec. 12, 2023. The "Road to COP28 in the UAE" was directed at introducing "COP28" and UAE, the presidency of the global climate event and at sharing UAE's plans for and solutions to the climate crisis. Ambassador Nuaimi kicked off the event with his welcoming speech in which the UAE envoy greeted each and every dignitary participants with respect and warmth.
Congratulatory remarks were made by such dignitaries and experts as the former UN Sec. Gen. Ban Ki-Moon, president and chair of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), GGGI Dir. Gen. Frank Rijsberman, Ambassador & Deputy Minister Kim Hyo-Eun (Jenny) of the Climate Change in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Co-chairman Kim Sang-Hyup of the Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth, and Dir. Gen. Lee Chang-Heum of the Policy Planning Bureau of South Korea's Ministry of Environment. Lee is in charge of climate change and carbon emissions affairs. Following the key-note speech delivered by "GOP28" Dir. Gen. Majid Al Suwaidi was the presentation of the "COP28 in the UAE." Well over 150 participants from South Korean government, foreign embassies, news media, and other sectors of society took part in the event. Among them were top foreign envoys and dignitaries including Italian Ambassador Federico Failla, Sierra Leone Charge d'Affaires Isatu Sema Aisha Sillah, and Sec. Gen. Kim Chang-Mo of Korea-Arab Society, the former Korean ambassador to Qatar.
In the welcoming speech the UAE envoy said that his country is dedicated steadfastly to renewable energy, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. Through his key-note address "GOP28" Dir. Gen. Majid Al Suwaidi called for the whole world to cooperate for the global climate change. "We need to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030 in order to keep the goal of 1.5 within reach," he stressed. "We have not adequately prepared for the impacts of climate change, with billions of people still on the frontlines of climate impacts and ill-prepared for the damages and effects" "We need to triple renewable energy, double energy efficiency, and bring hydrogen to scale," he added. "That is how we reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and tilt the balance increasingly toward clean energy sources" The oil-rich country wants to unite the world for climate change task through its "COP28UAE." The Middle-Eastern nation expects that "COP28UAE" will deliver the pathways for the world to get back on track to the goal of the Paris Agreement (2015).
