Chairman Hwang Gyo-An of South Korea's main opposition Liberty Korea Party (LKP) has his hair removed in front of Blue House on Sept. 16, 2019 in a strong protest against President Moon Jae-In's appointment of his ex-aide Cho Guk as justice minister.
Leader of South Korea's largest opposition party shaved his hair on Sept. 16, 2019 as a sign of his strong opposition to its President Moon Jae-In's appointment of former aide Cho Guk as justice minister.
In a ceremony held in front of Presidential Blue House of Cheongwadae at 5 p.m. Chairman Hwang Gyo-An of South Korea's main opposition Liberty Korea Party (LKP) removed his hair.
It was the first time the conservative politician showed his strong reaction to the move taken by the liberal president.
Hwang told the media that he would do his best to have President Moon cancel his appointment of scandal-ridden Cho as the new justice minister.
"I will keep fighting against Moon who runs counter to people's will and wish," Hwang roared in front of the Blue House.
In spite of strong opposition from people and opposition parties President Moon appointed Cho Guk as the new justice minister on Sept. 9, 2019.
It was learned that more than 840 university professors signed petition in their opposition to Moon's appointment of Cho as justice minister.
The scholars are demanding that President Moon withdraw his appointment of 54-year-old Cho as justice minister, nation's mass circulation daily Chosun Ilbo reported on Sept. 16. 2019.
Among the participating professors were 35 professors of Seoul National University where Cho used to teach law for over a decade.
As of Sept. 16, 2019, the third day of collecting signature of nation's professors on the internet, more than 840 professors from 180 universities and colleges signed the petition, demanding the cancellation of Cho's appointment, according to a pan-national group of professors for social justice.
Earlier in a letter released on the internet on Sept. 14, 2019, the professors declared that President Moon destroyed social justice and ethics by appointing Cho as justice minister against people's will.
The group said the professors are participating in the petition regardless of political spectrum.
